Steve Zarrilli

Steve_small.jpgSteve Zarrilli, the Chairman and Co-Founder of Penn Valley Group, is dedicated to successful growth for every client. Throughout an illustrious career, Steve has demonstrated an ability to successfully grow and manage entrepreneurial enterprises.  He is also proficient at raising mission critical capital, accumulating more than $200 million through traditional private-equity and venture sources, as well as initial public and secondary public offerings over the past 12 years.

Steve also currently serves as the full time Chief Financial Officer for Safeguard Scientifics, Inc., (NYSE: SFE), one of the largest capital providers in the Philadelphia region, joining Safeguard in this full time role in June 2008.  Steve previously served in an interim capacity as CFO for Safeguard from December 2006 to June 2007.

Prior to co-founding the Penn Valley Group in 2004, Steve served as CFO of Fiberlink Communications Corporation, a leading provider of VPN solutions for large enterprises. Before that, he was CEO of Concellera Software, Inc., a developer of content management software, eventually orchestrating the sale of its proprietary technology to HP. For the five years previous, he led US Interactive as the company’s first CFO, before becoming CEO in 1999. There, he oversaw a period of rapid growth made possible by three rounds of venture capital investments and five acquisitions. Steve also led both the IPO and secondary public offerings of US Interactive in 1999 and 2000, respectively. Steve spent the first 11 years of his career from 1983 to 1994 with the Philadelphia office of Deloitte & Touche where he was a leader in the development of the firm's local emerging business practice unit.

In addition to participating in the development of the strategic direction and business development activities of PVG, Steve currently serves as a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Nutrisystem, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTRI), a Director of Clarient, Inc.(NASDAQ: CLRT), and a director of Cadient, Inc. Previously, he also served as a director and member of the Audit Committee of Progress Financial Corporation (a publicly traded financial institution sold to Fleet Bank in 2004), the Executive Chairman of FMP Media, Inc, a director of Smooth Fitness, LLC, and as the Executive Chairman of NCT, Inc.

Steve is also a member of several non-profit organizations, including the Board of Directors of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia and the Advisory Council for the Center of Corporate Governance for Drexel University's LeBow College of Business. He also serves as the Philadelphia Regional Chairman of Economics, Pennsylvania, a non-profit organization that designs educational curriculums for children in grades K through 12 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

Steve holds a BS in Accounting from LaSalle University and is a former Certified Public Accountant.
