Operational Excellence

Realizing The Untapped Economic Potential Of Your Operation

Today more than ever business dynamics dictate a continuous adjustment in the value of what is delivered to the external constituents, namely customers and the financial stakeholders. While customers drive to lower cost, increase quality and improve delivery, the financial community drives to increase profits and maximize return on investment. PVG designs and implements operating models to effectively translate these goals into operational realities.

"Business processes are the methods and structure by which an organization utilizes the necessary assets and resources to produce value for customers, employees and shareholders.”

-Joe Giordano, Lead Partner, Operational Excellence

Our projects have delivered superior performance for customers, employees and shareholders. Our designed models utilize tools from Lean, Six Sigma and Short Interval Scheduling. Our straightforward and pragmatic approach fully engages employees in all phases of the project providing a platform for sustainable performance. PVG's Operational Excellence Team is focused in areas from “Order to Delivery”. Whether the issues are enterprise wide or small departmental performance, our proven methodology is applicable to a full range and size of operating challenges.

Business Case
The compelling justification or authority for an action, belief or feeling

PVG’s approach to helping our clients design and install Performance Excellence programs begins with a clear understanding of the rationale for performance change. Together we bring a clear definition to what we outline as the “Case for Change”. We quantify the specific areas of opportunities, and the fundamental reasons for change, to justify the investment of time, cost, resources and energy and expected ROI’s.

Measurement & Analysis
Detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or producing accurate interpretation

Having a clear set of facts is the cornerstone to designing, building and installing high performance operating models. We begin with understanding the current model and identifying the underlining issues and barriers to performance. Our Measurement & Analysis phase evaluates the full dimensions of the work configuration from the human capital and cultural consideration to the supplier inputs, methods, work arrangements, Value Stream Mapping, Process Flows, support systems, material and information flow, machinery and technology. PVG’s expertise defines the areas of opportunity, root causation, speed and expectations, and optimizes results.

Strategy
A plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim or objective

Our premise is about leveraging the assets that currently exist within the client’s environment. Our solutions do not require investments in new technology or equipment. We believe that investments in new technology and equipment should be applied to enhance sound operating models. Our solutions are pragmatic and produce fast sustainable results considering all economic and strategic requirements of our client.

“New technology acquired and applied to processes that currently produce deficient results typically fall short of the expected outcome. In these cases the silver bullet is not found within new technology or machinery but within revised processes that leverage the assets already in place. Assessing the value of process redesign should be considered a prerequisite to spending precious financial capital on new technology to ensure exceptional ROI’s.”

-Joe Giordano, Lead Partner, Operational Excellence

Implementation
Executing a decision, plan or agreement into effect

PVG’s Operational Excellence practice has a very distinguished reputation for having the capability of effectively translating strategies to an operating and financial reality. Our approach is to implement programs as part of the client’s team, facilitating a strong and meaningful knowledge transfer and management development program. The implementation applies the appropriate balance of tools, systems and methods from Lean, Six Sigma, and Short Interval Scheduling. Our “roll up the sleeves” approach and working side by side with the front line employees and supervisors ensures skills development and quick feedback to maximize overall effectiveness.

Sustained Improved Results
To continue for an extended period or without interruption a thing or method that makes the outcome something better

Our methodology enables a full knowledge transfer of the analytical skills, tools and practices from PVG to our Clients.  This provides our client’s employees with the requisite skills to continue to maintain the revised operating model.  Additionally, we develop a Client-specific Management System and Operating Control (MSOC) manual that outlines 7 key system elements specific to their “production system”.  It outlines all of the methods, tools and practices enabling the performance to be sustained and adjusted over time.
